American odds tell you how much you win compared with how much you risk.
Negative odds (favorites)
-150 means you risk $150 to win $100. Your total return would be $250.
Positive odds (underdogs)
+150 means a $100 bet wins $150. Your total return would be $250.
-110
Spreads and totals are often priced at -110: risk $110 to win $100. The difference is the sportsbook's margin.
Odds and probability
Odds also imply a chance of winning. -150 implies about 60%, and +150 about 40%. The implied chances for both sides add up to slightly more than 100% because of the sportsbook's margin.
